Player Ratings

Evolving in pickleball as a player may mean playing in events or tournaments that use skill ratings. Puerto Rico Pickleball Association primarily uses a rating system called DUPR

WHAT IS DUPR?

DUPR, which stands for "Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating", is the premier global rating system in Pickleball. All players, regardless of their age, gender, location, or skill, are rated on the same scale between 2.0-8.0 based on their match results.

DUPR is free and anyone can have a rating. One match result is all it takes to have a DUPR rating, and with 10-20 match results you will have an even more accurate rating.

HOW DO I CREATE MY DUPR?

If you've already played in a Puerto Rico Pickleball Association event, you may already have an account. You can claim your account at mydupr.com or by downloading the iOS or Android app.

Here are the steps to create your DUPR account:

  1. Download DUPR on IOS or Android App, or visit the site on your browser: www.mydupr.com
  2. Create an account
    • If you've played in a PRPA event, you may already have a DUPR account. Please check your email for a message from DUPR
    • Or, sign up here: https://mydupr.com/signup
  3. Login to your account using your username and password, either on the app or the website
  4. On your dashboard, you will find your current rating and any recent matches that you've played and was recorded on DUPR
  5. To find your DUPR ID, go to your profile to obtain the 6-character ID, which you will provide to tournament directors when playing DUPR events.

JOIN A DUPR CLUB

Events that are run through a DUPR club have a higher weight and effect on your player ranking. Join the Puerto Rico Pickleball Association club, or ask your local ambassador if you have a DUPR club in your area.

  1. Go to "Clubs" tab
  2. Search for "Puerto Rico Pickleball Associaion"
  3. Click "Join Club"

ADD GAMES TO DUPR

DUPR is only as good as the data it gets. The more games you record, the more accurate your DUPR rating becomes.

How to add games on DUPR:

  1. Recording it on your own
    • Prior to the game, ask the other players if they approve of the game being recorded on DUPR
    • All players must have a DUPR account
    • Anytime after the game, go to "New Match" tab
    • Add the event, location and date information
    • Search for and add the other players
    • You can record 1 game, or a set of games.

  2. Playing at a club or DUPR event.
    • DUPR or club events are usually added by the tournament director. These events have a higher weight in scores than games that are recorded individually by a player.
    • If you would like to host a sanctioned DUPR event under the Puerto Rico Pickleball Association club, please coordinate with the events team: events@puertoricopickleball.org events
    • For non-PRPA events, you may need to record the game individually. In this case, follow step 1

HOW IS DUPR CALCULATED?

DUPR is a modified Elo algorithm that uses a player’s last rating to update their new rating. The algorithm considers three factors:

  1. Victory: Did you win or lose? If you win, your rating will go up and if you lose, your rating will go down.
  2. Type of Result: Was this a self-posted rec play score, a club match, or a tournament result entered by DUPR? Rec play games will count less towards your rating change.
  3. Rating Difference of Opponent: If your opponent is higher than you and you win, you’ll increase more than if your opponent is lower rated and vice versa.
